The 4 Tenets of Growth
Everything begins and ends with self-awareness and once you develop it, you can then identify your personal values, cultivate discernment and find self-compassion.
These 4 Tenets of Growth are foundational to your success. And when I say “success” I don’t mean the traditional/societal understanding of success, I mean however you define success for yourself.
Trauma-Informed Coaching
Having a trauma-informed approach to coaching means consistently recognizing the profound impact that trauma can have on an individual’s emotional, psychological, and physical well-being. Trauma-informed coaching is built on the understanding that traumatic experiences can shape a person’s responses and behaviors in a myriad of ways. As a trauma-informed coach, the goal is to create a safe, supportive, and empathetic environment where clients feel validated and understood. This approach involves being aware of the signs and symptoms of trauma, integrating this knowledge into practice, and actively working to prevent re-traumatization. It requires a deep commitment to understanding the nuances of trauma and its effects, ensuring that every coaching interaction is approached with sensitivity and care.
As a trauma-informed coach I prioritize trust, transparency, and empowerment. I focus on building strong, respectful relationships and encourage clients to take an active role in their own healing process. By employing strategies that emphasize safety, choice, and collaboration, trauma-informed coaches help clients navigate their personal challenges more effectively. This holistic approach not only addresses immediate coaching goals but also fosters long-term resilience and growth. Ultimately, being trauma-informed means acknowledging the whole person and their experiences, and guiding them towards a path of healing and empowerment with compassion and respect.
Anti-Oppression Framework
As a coach committed to helping my clients heal, grow, and wrap language around their lived experiences, I affirm that power inequity is real and that marginalized identities experience cultural violence and oppression at the collective, relational, and personal levels. I work within an anti-racist, anti-oppression framework.
I affirm that healing for marginalized people includes coming into dignity, power, and self-respect while healing for privileged people includes transforming our toxic and oppressive behaviors.
I affirm that power inequity and systemic oppression are real forms of trauma and that marginalized identities face oppression at the collective, relational, and personal levels. I strive to support folks with marginalized identities in their work of healing and recognize that this work is necessary on not only an individual but collective, level.
My SaturnReturn Story
“I was in another country about to turn 28 and I felt completely lost and empty, not really knowing who I was or what I wanted to do with my life.”
I had lost sight of the confident, self-assured person I used to be, the person who knew what they wanted and how to get it. I was getting drunk more days in the week than not, working a job that I hated, and dating one toxic person after another. One positive thing I was doing was traveling a lot and exploring new places but even that didn’t help because each place I went, I realized that I couldn’t run away from the feelings that were overwhelming me. I remember being in one of the most breathtakingly beautiful places I had ever been and feeling totally empty inside. That is when I realized that I couldn’t keep escaping. I had to do something.
In a moment of sheer desperation and panic, I made a post on facebook about needing help. The post said something like: “I don’t know what I need right now but I know I need help. I’m too broke to afford therapy/coaching so if you know of someone who is training to become a therapist or life coach and needs practice please let me know. I don’t know what else to do.”
